Change List Item Permissions in ItemAdding\ ItemUpdating events of a Calendar List

Guys,

can one suggest how to change the List Item Permissions in the ItemAdding\ ItemUpdating events of a calendar List( i know how to change values using AfterProperties but don't know how to change permission, would i be making the changes to properties.ListItem or properties.AfterProperties).
