Authenticate Sharepoint AD User through Simple Asp.Net Web Application

Hi

I have a simple asp.net web application, and set up active directory users in Sharepoint 2010 Server.

I would like to authenticate AD User through asp.net application by passing user name / password in asp.net application 

and authenticate users somehow may be through sharepoint web service. Is there way to accomplish this?
