how to bulk update a list column?

Hi

I need to change the column value in a list for n number of selected items in a single go. i.e users should be able to select the items for which the column value needs to be changed from x to y by clicking a button in the ribbon.

Please suggest how to achieve the functionality at the same time providing a button in the ribbon to accomplish the activity.
