After deploying .wsp workflow not available

I have two server (1) Dev server with visual studio 2010 and sharepoint 2010 (2) Production server with sharepoint 2010 but not VS2010.

I created a workflow using vs 2010 on the dev server and was able to use vs to deploy said solution to the test sp site and the workflow did what I needed it to do.

So now I need to put this workflow onto the production site. I attempted to change the site to the production site within vs2010 but this failed, wont deploy to remote site.

Next I tried to take the .wsp file generated in the bin folder and use (Site Actions -Site Settings - Solutions and the locat site collection) to upload and activate the solution. Although I was able to successfully upload and activate the solution the workflow is not available anywhere. It is not automatically attached to the list, and it is not availble to ad onto the list through the lists workflow settings.

Next I tried using shell cmd to upload the .wsp file to central admin then went to (System Settings - Manage Farm Solutions) and deployed the .wsp file though there. Once again, everything completed successfully but there is not workflow available.

Lastly I attempted to deploy the solution to the dev server (where it worked fine), and then do a backup and restore of the site collection to the production server.  This worked to make the workflow available to the site collection, but the workflow failed without an error code when I tried to run it.

I have tried all the for mentioned methods with two separate .wsp solution. The first was designed to assign itself to a specific list. The second did not specify a list and should of been available to all lists in the collection, but it is not.

I am lost here and would really appreciate any help that is available. Thanks.
