Reduce http requests on SP 2010 master page - Combine/Minify js, css files

Hi

We've developed a highly custom intranet site on top of SharePoint 2010.  We want to reduce the amount of http requests being performed on certain pages, like the master page.  Whats the best way of doing this?

Any one used Cassette?
