How to add AD groups to Sharepoint and sync the changes

I am trying to add AD groups into SharePoint programmatically and create a timer job for the updates.

We are using ADFS as the authentication provider and cannot use People Picker as we have some trust issues.

How should I proceed? Someone please shed some light on this topic for me..
