Hi,
I'd like to know what the pros and cons would be if I were to rename the Title column to something else. So far I've read it's a bad idea however I'd like to know why it is.
Renaming it is not my first choice as I am able to hide it with ease, here's the link if your interested: http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/title-column-in-sharepoint-2010-custom-lists.html
The problem I ran into was how to show the edit context menu that appears under an item in the list. I was able to figure that out too using SharePoint Designer, here's the link in case anyone is interested: http://blogs.sharepoint911.com/blogs/jennifer/Lists/Posts/Post.aspx?List=126e87c2-6987-4652-a0af-425b31d827bd&ID=78&Web=2d9e5740-0f11-4705-b67c-010879b6e2a9
Our end users will not be using SharePoint Designer and this context menu must be available. There is a high probability that the end users may create their own custom views and this context menu will not be available.
So I have to come back to entertain the idea of having the Title field visible and renamed. What are the pros and cons of doing so? Is there another way I could bring back the edit menu in a way the users can do it? Do the benefits really outweigh the issues?
Any help and advice is truly appreciated!
Thanks,
Moneka
